ABOUT OUR FOOD PANTRY

Families enter our pantry and have a full shopping experience and only select items they wish to use. Our shelves are stocked with healthy, culturally meaningful foods that reflect the rich diversity of our student community.  Not only are we offering thoughtful foods, but we are educating, uplifting and nourishing our community. The inside of our pantry is a strong representation of diversity that reflects the Central Unified Community, thanks to (2) two local muralist: Samantha Lazcano and Andrea Torres.

At the end of the 2023-2024 school year we were proud to offer local produce grown by the FFA program of CUSD. This past school year we provided crucial nutrition for 6,126 individuals and 3,512 students under 18. This number also includes Central USD staff members and community members without school children, because nobody is turned away. Because food pantries like ours become a lifeline in times of need. Our continued goal is to bring a taste of home into reach for our Central community.

Our Food Pantry will reopen for the new school year in mid September. Please utilize the food locator below to find your nearest food distribution during our closure.

Empowering Communities With Access To Food: Teague Community Pantry

In the heart of Fresno, California a beacon of hope shines brightly for those struggling with food insecurity. The Teague Community Pantry, has emerged as a leader in providing individuals and families with the dignity of choice when it comes to accessing the food they need to thrive. This innovative approach has been made possible through the generosity of grants from the Kaiser Permanente Benefits Program, Central California Food Bank, and the Feeding America Morgan Stanley Choices Grant.

The Teague Community Pantry has transformed the way food assistance is provided. Rather than simply handing out pre-packaged boxes, the pantry offers a full shopping experience, allowing individuals to select the healthy, culturally appropriate items they wish to use. This model empowers those served, promoting dignity and recognizing the diverse needs within the community.

The pantry’s success is a testament to the power of collaboration. The Kaiser Permanente Benefits Program Grant supports initiatives that improve access to health care and promote community health. The Central California Food Bank, a key partner, works tirelessly to end hunger in the Central Valley, providing food to over 180 agencies across Fresno, Madera, King, and Kern Counties. The Feeding America Morgan Stanley Choices Grant has been instrumental in enabling the pantry to expand its capacity to offer choice to those it serves. This grant is part of Morgan Stanley’s commitment over four years to Feeding America, supporting programs that address child hunger and improve equitable access to food.

The Teague Community Pantry is more than just a food distribution center; it is a hub of community strength and resilience. As a part of the Foundation for Central Schools, it embodies the foundation’s mission to support student development and encourage community investment. The pantry’s work is a shining example of what can be achieved when organizations come together with a shared vision of a hunger-free community. As it continues to grow and evolve, the Teague Community Pantry remains committed to providing choice, dignity, and hope to all it serves.
